Obituary of Richard James Sercu

1940 - 2021

Hilton - Richard passed away suddenly at his home on June 11, 2021 at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy [Ritzenthaler] Sercu; his children, Richard (Greta) Sercu, Thomas (Linda) Sercu and Karen (James) Dawson; his grandchildren, TJ Sercu (Mariya), Kathy (Drew) Sercu-Smith, Nicole Sercu (Mike), Ashley Sercu (Jacob) and Jessica Walsh; his great-granddaughters, Ella and Kali; his sister, Kathy Sercu (Denis); and brother, Robert Sercu. He was predeceased by his parents, Eleanor and John Sercu; and his infant grandson, Ricky.

Dick was the owner of Sercu Electric. He was devoted to his family and loved the great outdoors. He could be found camping with family and friends, walking his neighborhood, tending to their vegetable garden, hiking with his hiking boots, hat & walking stick in the mountains of the Adirondacks, or consulting in later years with his family on the many projects we may have needed to call Dad/Grampa for. His wisdom, love and support will be forever missed.

Calling hours will be held, following CDC guidelines, on Wednesday, June 16th from 4 - 7 PM at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., 735 East Avenue in Hilton, where his Funeral will take place on Thursday, June 17th at 11 AM. Interment will be held privately in Parma Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice in memory of Dick.
