Joyce had the very difficult decision regarding her health. Does she move forward with treatment of her cancer or let life take it's course. It was much sooner than I ever expected to hear that she has passed on to be with her mother than I expected. At one time we joked about Social Security Administration determining she was gone (before her time). We called her the walking dead and laughed about it. Of course she had to tell the story about how someone in the Social Security Administration pushed the deceased button and stopped her benefits for months as her family and even I tried to clear up. By the way it took Louise Slaughter to fix it, no kidding. I assured her we would not toss her out of her keester and that she would have a home during this time which did worry her so. Well the higher up entity, maybe God has called her to be with them now. We had the honor of knowing and enjoying her to this point.
She was such a beautiful lady inside and out and had a great sense of humor. She was very independent, proud and dignified. She loved calling Bingo on Mondays at Hamlin Terrace and keep our library in tip-top shape. She would volunteer to help me set up and take down meals during special events like our Thanksgiving Dinner, Annually. She could get topics of conversation going in a group setting of one or several. You could never feel alone around her. She will always be remembered here by her Monday game friends and Neighbors and by those that had the honor of knowing her at any level.
She will not be forgotten. Many prayers to her family during this time of sadness. Sincerely, on behalf of Hamlin Terrace Apartments, Shelley Slater
