Obituary of Frederick Douglas Robinson

Buffalo - It is with broken hearts that the Robinson family announces the passing of F. Douglas (Doug) Robinson.  Doug passed peacefully on March 8^th at the age of 89 with his daughter at his side.  A strong family man, he is survived by his 3 children, David, James (Ann), and Ann.  He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Olivia, Gabriel, Emma, Isabella, and Nathaniel and nieces Julie Daubert (Ed) and Marcie Miller (Drew) and 4 grandnieces. 

Doug was born in Rochester, NY and grew up in Geneseo, NY.  He was the son of Oressa and Fredrick D. Robinson and brother of Carolyn Wright.  In 1956, he graduated from Hobart College with a degree in Economics.  Doug served in the US Army Signal Corp, stationed at Fort Huachuca, focusing on early drone communication. He married Barbara Jean Robinson in 1963.

Doug began his career at Marine Midland Bank as a branch manager in Greece, NY.  With the advent of the computer age, he quickly picked up the new technology becoming a computer programmer and eventually moved to the Buffalo headquarters and eventually retired after 40 years as Vice President of Advanced Systems (HSBC).  He then joined Manufacturer and Distribution Systems as CEO and President.  He also became a co-owner of MytyeMyke focusing on production software. 

Doug was known for his expansive knowledge, memory, and stories.  He loved to travel and cook, especially bread and anything “Turkish.”  He believed in community and was a member of St. Marks Church.  He was President and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Orchard Park Rotary Club. He was also a board member of the local YMCA.   A long-standing member of Niagara on the Lake Sailing club and an avid sailor his whole life starting in dinghies and finally keel boats, he imparted his wisdom and love of the sport to his family and friends. 

A Memorial and Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Mark’s Church in Orchard Park in the early summer at a time to be determined by the family.
