Condolences
I am so incredibly sad for Steve’s passing. I enjoyed every conversation with him, from snow shoeing to Jekyll Island, his antique car, taxidermy collection, Adirondacks, sailing, mom, and wonderful family. He was an expert hairdresser and I always left the choices to him. He always had some interesting historical book at his station with a unique family connection. He was kind and compassionate and funny, and I will miss him.
I was deeply saddened today when belatedly learning from Kelly of Steve's passing. Steve was our family hair dresser for at least 37 years. Starting with my wife Anne who thought he was the greatest and including our two boys, for a while, after my attempts at doing their hair as my father did for me were no longer appreciated by the boys and mom. I joined the mix a bit later and have gone to Steve ever since until he cut back on his schedule. Steve would always ask about the boys as they progressed through life stages and had interesting conversations about his music, dancing instructor, antiques, architecture and family. Conversation was always very easy and informative. Steve will be missed!
My condolences to Steve's family and friends.
Steve was my hairdresser for the past 35 years. I received so many compliments on my hair over those years - a testament to Steve's prowess at his craft. I never knew what topic we'd discuss at each appointment; antiques, the Adirondacks, music, his Navy stint, his family, snow shoeing, crewing, caring for his mom, and of course, food. It didn't matter the topic, I always left having learned something new and interesting. Steve was proud of his family's history and humble about his chosen field of work. He would apologize for being "chatty" - but I truly looked forward to my appointments and our discussions, but of course, never daring to be late! :-)
My sincerest condolences to Steve's family and friends. Thank you for sharing those pictures - they really capture his spirit! I know that Steve is now in a better place. I have you in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Going to miss Steve. He had been my hairdresser for over 25 years. He was great at compassionate care and the best hair cuts. I always felt beautiful after a visit. We discussed books, cars, music and travel adventures. Miss you!
I am so surprised and deeply saddened by Steve's
passing. I had spent a couple of years in his chair
having my hair expertly cut and styled. I enjoyed
hearing of his Navy Band experience, his life since
and his old Chrysler, which I had a short ride in
several years ago. What an interesting guy. I will
miss seeing him and hope that I hear of the future
service or memorial gathering.
Accomplished, sensitive, and kind -- Steve will be so missed. We really did come to you for your charm.
What a shock to learn of his early passing. Steve was such an engaging person, always learning, interested, with a sense of style mixed with a bit of intrigue. Being in his company was always wonderful as he was both interesting and interested. There was nothing ordinary about Steve. We will miss him and recognize that his loss leaves a void to all who knew him.
Steven was my hairdresser for 27 years. Like Steven, I am also a classically trained musician. My time in the chair was spent talking about our favorites like Copland’s Clarinet Concerto or Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite or Stravinsky's Petrushka. How I would have loved to hear a recording of Steven’s performance of “Quiet City” with Aaron Copland conducting. Happy to see the “Oboe Picture” one last time. Creative in spirit and knowledgeable about everything: music, decorating, hair styling, antiques, cars, Adirondacks, and more. What a surprise to receive an autograph poster of Olympian rower Meghan Musnicki when I first started learning the sport. Of course he knew her - he cut her hair when she was 4 years old! I will miss my time with Steven – a constant in my life for so long. My heartfelt condolences to Jim, Steve’s family and to all who enjoyed his company so much.
I was a client of Steve's for 39 years, following him to various hair studios in Fairport. He was a creative and interesting person with many passions, from genealogy to antiques to old cars to ballroom dancing to cooking to Nantucket to Swedish mystery novels to the Andirondacks, and always to music. I am fortunate to have sat in his chair and discussed life with him. He was important to me. He will be missed by many many people.
I just learned of Steve's passing yesterday. He was my hairdresser for 35 years - few individuals have been such a consistent presence in my life. When I first heard of Steve, I was told he was "an artist." He did not disappoint: in the care he used in the creation of a new haircut for me, in his ability to tell the funny stories of his life, and, yes, in displaying the moodiness for which he was well known! I will miss him deeply, and remember him with great fondness. To Jim and to Steve's family - I'm holding you in thought and prayer, that happy memories will give you strength in this time of sadness.
Steve and I were very close in high school and especially band. My condolences to his family and friends during this time.
The loss leaves me sad and without adequate words. What fun and what good food he added to my life. Always had a new story from his full and adventurous past to make the roadtrip miles fly by.
We have fond remembrances of meeting and sharing time with Steve and Jim in Rochester as well as in Savannah, Georgia. We always had a good time and fond remembrances. We shall miss him.
Steve had been my close friend for close to 30 years. We traveled together and hunted for antiques together and had some pretty wonderful times. We also helped each other to bear each other’s burdens in times of stress, sickness, and sadness. I don’t think that you can ask more than that of a friend for such a long time. I look at our long time friendship as a special gift given freely with out with out question.
It seems that Steve left this life way to soon, but he told me recently that he felt he had a great life and was ready to move on to his next great experience. Steve will be missed by his many friends, family, and longtime clients many who had been his clients for 40 years. That in itself speaks highly of him as a professional hair stylist, musician, son, brother and friend.
Steve, you will be sorely missed by so many.
